Are you eligible for a free home eye test?

We provide NHS services

If you are unable to leave your home unaccompanied, you may be eligible for a free NHS eye test at home.

Helping people with mobility issues

To be eligible for a home eye test, you or someone you know, may have one or more of the following:

  • A condition or reduced mobility that stops you from leaving your home unaccompanied


  • A diagnosed mental health condition that prevents you from leaving your home without the assistance of another person


  • Be housebound or bedbound due to a physical disability


There could be a number of reasons why someone may not be able to leave their home unaccompanied. It can cover a number of conditions which could affect mobility such as severe arthritis.

There may also be other reasons including dementia, cognitive impairment, conditions that effect short term memory or may be diagnosed as mentally ill.

It could also include other temporary conditions which prevents you from leaving your home unaccompanied such as vertigo or requiring oxygen.


Helping you if you have mobility issues

In addition to meeting the above criteria, you are also required to meet one of the categories below to qualify for a free home NHS eye test.

If you are:

· Are 60 or over

· Are registered as partially sighted or blind

· Have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma

· Aged 40 or over and a family member has been diagnosed with  glaucoma

· Have been advised by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that you're at risk of glaucoma

· Have a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate (if you do not have a certificate, you can show your award notice), you qualify if you get Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits with a disability element (or both), and have income for tax credit purposes of £15,276 or less

· Have a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)


You're also entitled if you or your partner receive:

· Income Support

· Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

· Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

· Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

· Universal Credit and meet the criteria

Am I entitled for an NHS Optical Voucher (contribution towards glasses)

You're also entitled if you or your partner – including civil partner – receive, or you're under the age of 20 and the dependant of someone receiving:


  • Income Support
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Universal Credit and meet the criteria


If you're entitled to or named on:


  • A valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate (please see above for more details)
  • A valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)
  • People named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3) may also get help with the cost of a private sight test.

Book an eye test

If you don't qualify for a free NHS eye test, don't worry



We can still come to you at the comfort of your home and do the eye test for a small free of £60.

You will still get the same great eye test and service with quality products.
